Is Facebook just for kids?

At a time where Social Media is used as a Marketing tool to reach out to consumers, Some Marketers still refrain from the idea using Facebook to reach out to their target consumers as they feel that Facebook caters largely to a younger audience.

According to CheckFacebook.com there are currently 2,300,180 Facebook users in Singapore as of 28 September 2010. With Singapore’s population hovering around the 5m mark, that’s 50% of our population on Facebook!

So looking at those figures, what are the chances of you missing out on reaching out to your target market?

Chances are, the first kid you see after this probably has a Facebook account. But does that mean majority of the users are in the under 18 category?

Take a look at the Facebook stats below. This study is taken from CheckFacebook.com, a website that tracks the stats of Facebook users around the world which gets updated on a daily basis.

Based on the table on the left, only 12.5% make up the figures for users below 17 years of age.  Sharing a close stat is the 18-24 category and 35-44 category, with 28.4% and 33.6% respectively.

The table above clearly shows that majority of Facebook users in Singapore are above 18 years of age. If your target audience are not kids then you should  seriously look into pushing some marketing strategies into this social networking site.

Think about it, which other website could you find half a country’s population gathered in?

Facebook allows Marketers to target audiences very specifically, if you have a party event targeted at single women, or a seminar that is aimed at investors, all these are very possible via Facebook.

So don’t be afraid of using Facebook. It is one truly powerful tool.
